Italy Seaside Retreat is a Mediterranean coastal framed wall art print in which the sea takes up half the image. It turns deep blue almost immediately past the rocks and stays that way to the horizon, unbroken except for a thin line of surf along the base of the cliff. That flat expanse is what gives the house above it something to stand against.

Frame, shatterproof plexiglass and hanging kit are all in the box, so it goes up in an afternoon. Plexiglass earns its keep here more than usual: this piece tends to end up in a kitchen or a bathroom, and glass near a hob or a wet floor is a poor idea in any home with children. Behind it, matte paper stops that large area of blue from turning into a mirror when there is a window on the opposite wall.

It works best where the wall is plain and the room is not — tiled splashback, open shelving, a table that actually gets used. Above a dining table for four, 45x60 cm is the right weight. 60x90 cm suits a long kitchen wall or a stairwell that catches morning light. 30x40 and 40x50 cm fit a hallway, the wall beside a pantry door, or next to a window where the real view is nothing like this one.

The Frame

The frame is solid pine with a slim 20–25 mm profile, chosen to hold the artwork without competing with it. Four colours to choose from: white, wood, dark wood and black. White and black keep the look graphic and clean; the two wood tones warm the piece up and sit well against neutral walls.

Your poster arrives already mounted behind the plexiglass with the hanging hardware fitted, so it goes straight onto the wall. Frame depth and construction can vary slightly between production hubs.
